SKY Castle First Impressions kdrama

SKY Castle is a fantastic new and dark comedy drama. It explores the insane pressure children experience by their tyrannical parents. Writer Yoo Hyun-mi, who is also the screenwriter for Bridal mask, is doing a fantastic job. I'd love to know. Which parts of the SKY Castle is based on real stories and people? If both academic woes and mysteries intrigue you, then this drama is for you.

Synopsis:
The story revolves around four families, who live in the prestigious and exclusive SKY Castle neighborhood. Each family comprises of a successful husband and an educated and beautiful housewife. Her sole responsibility is getting their child/and or children admitted into top tier universities. Then there are their trophies (whoops, I mean children), who are coerced to do their parents bidding. The story starts out with a bang and a major event occurs and the ricochet prompts the rest of the story. Although the mystery is quickly solved, it somehow builds more anticipation. What will happen to the families? Will the new and unconventional family throw a spanner in the works?

Han Seo-jin (Yeom Jung-ah) is married to a self-important surgeon. The pair each have difficult a personality and can’t get on the same page. They have two daughters. The eldest is the precious princess, to be honest, it's because she is both competitive and a top student. Unfortunately, her diabolical personality is overlooked by her parents. The youngest daughter is the tough, sensitive, and sadly neglected. Seo-jin is one of the most significant characters in the story.

Lee Soo-im (Lee Tae-ran) is married to newly directed department head of the neurosurgery. They move into the fourth house, after a tragedy caused the previous family to vacate. Soo-Im is laid back and earthy, so much so that she comes off a little rude. She and her son Hwang Woo-joo (Chan Hee) are anomalies, because she doesn't interfere with his academic life. Without professional tutoring, he still manages to receive top scores. Their arrival triggers many changes and threatens established traditions. This family is happy, warm, confident, and believe in supporting the welfare of others.

No Seung-hye (
Yoon Se-ah) is married to law school professor Cha Min-hyuk (Kim Byung-chul). He is despicable and for many reason is the most unlikable character. For example, he has a bad temper and emotionally abuses his wife and sons. He is an egomaniac and his wife (probably out of fear) submits him and she's quite pitiful. They have twin sons and despite an oppressive home life, they remain down-to earth. After a few episodes, the family trajectory changes after Seung-hye makes a bold and risky move. She got the idea and courage after asking Soo-im for advice.

Jin Jin-hee (
Oh Na-ra) is married to orthopedic surgeon Woo Yang-woo (Jo Jae-yun). Despite having a fondness of getting drunk, he is easy going and listens to his wife - even if she is rather bossy. She has freedom and equality in her marriage. Yang-woo places no pressure on her with their son’s education. She is very close to Seo-jin. This "eonni/dongsaeng" relationships is more about playing politics than anything else. This family provides much needed comic relief. During high school Jin-heel was a famous bully in Gangnam - her nick name was "short shorts". This explains her sassy attitude and quick temper.

In the rear is the new icy character, Kim Joo-young (Kim Seo-hyung), an exclusive admissions expert. Her character is major catalyst for events (past and present). Currently she is closed book and an intriguing character.

The drama has high production value, excellent camera work, and even better use of music - particularly the closing song of each episode. The locations strategically a
nd meticulously contribute to the nuances of the story. Overall SKY is definitely worth checking out.
